Non Executive ChairmanMr Barwick is the Non Executive Chairman and was appointed to the board in March, 2004. Mr Barwick is an accountant by profession with over 36 years experience in the management and administration of publicly listed companies both in Australia and North America.
During this period he has held the position of Chairman, Managing Director or President of over 26 publicly listed companies covering a broad range of activities. During the past three years Mr Barwick has also served as a director of Morning Star Holdings (Australia) Limited, Global Approach Limited, Eastern Corporation Limited, Macarthur Minerals Limited, Jumbo Corporation Limited and International Gold Mining Limited.
Managing DirectorAndrew Gillies graduated from the University of Queensland in 1985. Since that date he has worked continuously as a geologist in the mining and exploration industry, accruing over 20 years experience across a range of commodities. He has been a company geologist with BHP Gold Mines Ltd, Perseverance Corporation Ltd, Cracow Mining Venture and a consulting geologist for Valdora Minerals N.L., Auralia Resources N.L. and International Pursuit Corporation. During this period he gained valuable experience in the exploration, feasibility, development, open pit and underground mining of metalliferous deposits.
Andrew's key strength is his diversified resources experience and strategic planning. He specialises in project generation, selection and acquisition of quality Mineral projects. He has acquired a considerable database and significant knowledge of metalliferous mineralisation and mineral deposits particularly in Queensland. Since 1996 he has been instrumental in the selection and acquisition of all the mineral assets now held by Metallica and its subsidiaries.
From 1993 to date, he has conducted a Brisbane-based geological consultancy, Golden Breed Pty Ltd, consulting on gold, base metals and industrial minerals in Eastern Australia, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands.
Since the incorporation of Metallica, Andrew has gained extensive experience in all the usual commercial and management matters that form part of the Queensland resources business and as a founding Director and a major shareholder, he has remained the driving force behind Metallica.
Executive Director - Chief Financial Officer & Company SecretaryJohn Haley is a Chartered Accountant (Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants) with over 25 years experience in tax (with Coopers & Lybrand and Arthur Andersen & Co), general management, financial reporting and company secretarial duties. He has extensive experience in the preparation of Prospectuses and has been involved in the listing of Companies in Australia and Canada. His work experience is in a diverse range of industries including mineral exploration, and he has participated as a seed capitalist in a number of mineral exploration companies.
Non Executive Director
Mr Nicholson has 13 years of diverse experience in the mining industry, having graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining). His experience has been in mine production planning and management. Prior to joining Resource Capital Funds in July 2003, he was employed by LionOre Australia (Nickel) Ltd. as Underground Manager of the Emily Ann Nickel Mine. Mr Nicholson advanced the Emily Ann Mine from a greenfields project to successfully producing mine, supervising the twin decline development from the portals. While with LionOre he also completed the mining component of the bankable feasibility study for the Maggie Hays deposit. Before joining LionOre in 2001, he worked for WMC Resources Ltd, whom he joined as a university graduate. During his time with WMC, Mr Nicholson worked in 7 different underground operations and a centralized mine planning unit. Prior to leaving WMC he was the underground manager of the Long/Victor Complex.
Mr Nicholson is an associate member of the Securities Institute of Australia, having successfully completed its Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment and is based in Resource Capital Funds' office in Perth, Western Australia.
Non Executive Director Mr Ashley is a Non Executive Director and was appointed to the Board on 22 November 2006. Mr Ashley is a management accountant with over 20 years experience in the resource industry, including roles at senior management level with Cluff Resources plc in the UK, the Normandy Group and LionOre Mining International Ltd.
After emigrating to Australia 12 years ago, Mr Ashley joined Forrestania Gold - which was subsequently acquired by LionOre in 1994 and was with the company through its emergence as a growing international nickel producer up until 31st March, 2006. He left LionOre at that time to run Apex Minerals, which he has a 10% interest in.
Mr Ashley is also a Director of Apex Minerals Limited, Kagara Zinc and Tianshan Goldfields Limited all ASX listed companies. Mr Ashley is a Member of Council at the Curtin University of Technology and has recently been appointed a member of the university's Finance Committee. He has also served as Chairman of the Major Gifts Committee for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and as a Director of the Australian Gold Council.
